Mini Biography: Los Angeles native Tyra Banks began her modelling career at age 17. After signing a contract with cosmetics company Cover Girl, Tyra landed on a number of high profile magazine covers. Some of those covers include Sports Illustrated's '96 and '97 swimsuit issues and GQ, where she was the first black woman to ever be featured on the cover.
After appearing in a few music videos, including Michael Jackson's "Black or White," Tyra Banks started an acting career. Her first role was as Jackie Ames on the Will Smith sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She then broke into feature films, appearing as the love interest of Omar Epps' character in 1995's Higher Learning. Her next high profile film role came in 1999 in the French Stewart comedy Love Stinks. The following year Tyra appeared in two films, the drama-romance Love & Basketball and the hotshot women bartender flick Coyote Ugly.
